These are my thoughts, please share yours.
13 This is Paul first reference to his mother who would have been old but this shows that perhaps they were cousins or some family or just childhood friends. Rufus was chosen by the Lord which shows that he may have been from a background where people would perhaps said he would have not come to Jesus. Rufus’s father was the man that helped Jesus carry His cross.
14 These men were all Christians from Rome, may have been more connected than others may have been a group that was hard to separate all with the same motivation for serving the Lord.
