I was thinking about the only verse you hear talking about Peter as Pope is:
Then, there is the issue of the claim Peter received the Keys to the Kingdom. But does it say that?
No. Christ was talking to all the Disciples, not just Peter.
He even speaks of two, not just Peter, about things being done.
So there is no question, Peter was never given the leadership of the Church on earth. In fact, he was never the the Bishop or Rome and there was no Pope until centuries later.
Well, Peter is Petros and the rock the Church is built on is Petra, which is always used to refer to Jesus. So, the Church is built on Christ, not Peter.Matthew 16
17 Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. 18 And I tell you that you are Peter,b]">[b] and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hadesc]">[c] will not overcome it. 19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will bed]">[d] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will bee]">[e] loosed in heaven.” 20 Then he ordered his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.
Then, there is the issue of the claim Peter received the Keys to the Kingdom. But does it say that?
No. Christ was talking to all the Disciples, not just Peter.
Christ is talking to all the Disciples, not just Peter.Matthew 18
18 “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will bee]">[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will bef]">[f] loosed in heaven.
19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
He even speaks of two, not just Peter, about things being done.
So there is no question, Peter was never given the leadership of the Church on earth. In fact, he was never the the Bishop or Rome and there was no Pope until centuries later.
