Romans 11:6-8
KJV(i)6 And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. 7 What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded. 8 (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear unto this day.
JuliaSmith(i)6 And if to grace, it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. And if of works, it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work. 7 What then What Israel seeks for, this be attained not; but the selection attained, and the rest were hardened. 8 (As has been written, God gave them the spirit of mortal pain, eyes not to see, and earn not to hear even to this day.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

6 Salvation is not by works. We can not do anything or be good enough to get to glory. The law was based off living by works. The Pharisees rejected Jesus because this wanted to live by works and not by grace. Religion is based off works. The relationship with Christ is based on love and grace. We do not earn grace but our freely given grace but it is not free because grace did cost Jesus His life. Grace is free to us though. If we were saved by works then works would be salvation and none would be able to attain it.

7 Israel is no longer God’s people but, those who follow after Jesus are God’s people elected for something better than the promises the Jews are entitled to receive. Those who are called by God to salvation will receive glory thru grace because they obeyed His call and came to Jesus. Jews sought after and Messiah and still do. The Messiah, Christ came and they rejected Him as Lord and Savior and did not accept Him as their Messiah. There was a small percentage of Jews who accepted and then carried the gospel into the world.

8 There will come a time the Jews realize the truth about Jesus and accept Him as Lord and Savior. For now though the Jews will continue to reject Jesus. This does not mean a Jewish person can not come to Jesus; it is that they just are not because of this. There today is a growing number of Jesus who believes Jesus was Messiah and use the New Testament but they may not accept Jesus as their Lord though.

It seems to me one of the most subtle and at the same time most deadly aspects of the Falling Away is the notion we can do anything to earn salvation.

It requires denying or rewriting so much of the Bible. The most direct to the most indirect writings driving home the point nothing we do without God is of value is missed.

That fuels ego and people trying to prove, at all costs, they are essential to salvation and God plays does not play the key role. It diminishes God.

That opens a door for the Anti-Christ, false religions, false doctrine, etc.

Ultimately, one either must abandon this thinking or embrace it over Christ. No way around it.

Further driving that point home is the Millennial Kingdom. After all of human history demonstrating Christ is King, God and Savior, there will still be those who will not accept.

Sad.
