Everyday I hear more and more we should tolerate as a society and I'm being told as a Christian that we need to be more tolerant. That this is what Jesus did and how he acted in a peaceful, loving and forgiving manner. So as a Christian I am being told by society and even other Christians to be nice, peaceful and just tolerate more. That is the Christ-like manner we should all be striving for a peaceful loving tolerant society.

Don't be judgmental and don't be intolerant its not the Jesus way.

So what do you all think. Is this message a good one or a bad one?

More importantly is it the truth of the bible?

That certainly sounds like whats going on Jessie.
People are going to do what they want we cant control that but we can control our responses to those people.

What does it mean to tolerate something or someone? What is the definition?

I think what they mean to tolerate is to put up with all kind of things that simply are not right in Gods eyes.
go be one of them, act like all is well, believe it too and just maybe it will be.
reality in the end shows it does not work

Christ expressed his tolerance and being non judgmental when he attacked the money changes in the Temple and called such as the Pharisees snakes and jackasses.

He will show even more when he sends people into the Lake of Fire.

Love all, but judge justly. Forgiveness first requires repentance.

The Bible, and Christ, are very loving, forgiving and most of all just.

The problem with Christians that hold that blanket tolerant view is they are ignorant of the word of God. Where does God say to tolerate sin , because that is what they are asking us to do. the most loving thing we can do is tell them what the truth is. If they are homosexual we should tell them their need for God ,if the are Muslims, again we should tell them the truth. Maybe the issue is many are only pointing out the sin and not giving the solution ( Christ). Jesus was never tolerant of sin. What he did different than the religious leaders was to offer fogivness for ALL who would turn to God for forgivness. He didnt pick and choose , there was no class divisions with him. That to me is where he was more tolerant and more loving.

Toleration comes when there is a disagreement. Contention. We tolerate things when we can't come to a mutual agreement.
We don't have to tolerate things we agree on. There is nothing to tolerate when we agree together on something.

do i believe that the lord can forgive absolute sin? absolutely. thats the message to us all, what is impossible for man is not for god our father

Be willing to forgive. That is very different from trying to forgive.

As well, as the Bible says, blaspheming the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven.

Why? Because the person puts themselves beyond the ability to repent. There never is anywhere in the Bible where anyone was forgiven without first repenting.

Love your enemies, but never turn your back on them. And be willing to defend yourself.

Turn the other check is commanded for our brothers and sisters in Christ, not the world. But even there the NT sets limits for when to turn your back on them and walk away.

Indeed, a lot of demands we can never perfectly fulfill on our own.

Luke 6:17-38

17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases;

18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed.

19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed [them] all.

20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed [be ye] poor: for yours is the kingdom of God.

21 Blessed [are ye] that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed [are ye] that weep now: for ye shall laugh.

22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you [from their company], and shall reproach [you], and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man's sake.

23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward [is] great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.

24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation.

25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep.

26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.

27 But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,

28 Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the [one] cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not [to take thy] coat also.

30 Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask [them] not again.

31 And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

32 For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them.

33 And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same.

34 And if ye lend [to them] of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again.

35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and [to] the evil.

36 Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
